How to keep watch on your sugar, weight, and diet? Is it ok to take a cup of tea with sugar? Let us find out.
An adult can take 1500 calories to 2500 calories per day. Exact amount of calories depends on one's age and activities. Further, one gram of sugar, carb, and protein yield 4 calories. But the fats yield 9 calories per gram. That is why, oil is more harmful than sugar. Say, we have a cup of tea and sugar yet to be added. The cup of tea without sugar has at least 30 calories. Now we can write an equation.
Calories in the teacup = 4 * number of grams of sugar + calories in tea.
or Y = 4x + 30
If you are allowed take 50 calories for a evening tea, you can add 5 grams of sugar, safely.
Y = 4*5 +30= 50 calories.
Now plot a graph for this equation Y = 4x+30 we get,
The graph has a slope m=4. That is, as x increases by one unit. Y increases by 4 units, which is calories per gram of sugar. The y-intercept is 30 which is basic calories in the tea.
Hence this equation is of the form Y= mx+c; m-slope; c-intercept and it is called linear equation. That is, we get a straight line not a curve. Now, we understand that for fats, the slope will be more, and the line will be sleeper.
From tea to gradient:
Positive slope shows when one (x) increases other (y) also increases. Negative slope means when x increases, the y decreases. A horizontal line has zero slope. It shows that increase in x has no effect on y.
The gradient can also be interpreted as the rate of change of y with respect to x. Steeper the line, higher the rate of change.
Also, positive gradient shows direct relationship between two variables (x and y). Negative gradient shows inverse relationship between the two variables.
While drinking a cup of tea we have learnt gradien"t".
