BASIC NEEDS TODAY: SMART HOME, SMART WEARABLE AND HEALTHY FOOD

It is a night 10:00 p.m.  I locked the house doors.  I checked security camera images on my smart phone.  It is all o.k.  I opened another app; switched off all the smart lights in the house and dimmed the hall-light. Then I tapped my smart watch.  It said, "you walked 7.2 km today and burned 2700 calories.  The heart-beat at the moment is 81 per minute.  The resting heart rate is 71 today".  I felt satisfied.  I switched on the "home projector".  It cast a big image on the wall of the hall.  I put on the blue-tooth head phone (I do not want to wake up others).  I begin to watch my favorite serial "Game of throne".  This is not a wild imagination but a reality in many modern Indian homes.  The technology is affordable and accessible to Indians today.

Out of many smart wearable and devices, smart watch stands prominently today.  Let us explore it deeply so that we can appreciate and exploit the device better.

First, let us find out how it measures the heart-rate.  At the back of the watch, there are two green LED lights and a photo cell.  When the watch is worn on the wrist, it shines the light on the skin.  Red blood readily absorbs green light.  When the heart beats (pumps out blood), there is a surge of blood flow in the veins and hence more absorption of green light.  When the heart takes 'a bit of rest'  between the beats, there is less flow and less absorption light.  This is how the watch recognizes the heart-beats.  The 'number of beats per minute' is sent to the smart-phone through blue-tooth and the phone sends the data to the internet and the company's servers.  There, the data is interpreted using algorithms(software) and the human-friendly information is sent back to the app on our smart phone.  Then a clear graphical message is displayed on the phone.

Besides optical sensor, there is a micro accelerometer with a gyroscope which measures our walking, running steps, and sleep pattern.  There is an altimeter.  It measures the height we climbed,  be it a mountain or a staircase.  Some watches measures body temperature also and some have GPS.

Hence the sensors collect the data and the algorithms interpret them in a user-friendly way.  From the watch and its app, we get the information like, How is the quality of our sleep; How healthy is our heart; what is heart resting-rate; How much calories we burned; How to shed weight; How active we are in a day and so on. So get a smart watch and #GetFitWithFlipkart  .

WHO's report says, every year around 25 million people meet their end because of cardiovascular diseases.  Hence, it is a wonder, we do not still see activity band on everyone's hand.

These words, "obesity, diabetes, physical inactivity, blood pressure, sleep patterns, lifestyle diseases",  figure in all the health-reports and articles today.  Hence we need these wearable digital monitors badly.

Google glasses, smart shoes, smart bracelets and rings, smart clothes and bags, are going to be popular as smart watches in the future.  Surveillance smart camera hooked to the internet is a boon today.  You can watch your home and office from anywhere in the world. (There is a wireless door bell which when pressed by a person,  takes the photo of the person immediately and sends it to the phone of the owner).

Tomorrow, all the electrical and electronic appliances in our home can be controlled remotely using apps on the phone. We have traveled a long way from stone age to the digital age.  Have a smart, healthy, long and happy digital life. Let us start #SmartHomeRevolution now.

"Swiss watch may be the icon of wealth
But a smart watch is the icon of health".

"You may have a small home
But you can make it smart".

Your heart -you do not know

Size and Location: The human heart is roughly the size of a clenched fist and is located slightly to the left of the center of the chest. Despite its relatively small size, the heart plays a crucial role in pumping blood throughout the entire body. Heartbeat Variability: The heart does not beat at a constant rate. The interval between heartbeats can vary, and this variability is considered a sign of a healthy heart. Factors such as breathing, emotions, and physical activity influence the heartbeat. Electrical Conduction: The heart's contractions are controlled by electrical impulses. The sinoatrial (SA) node, often called the "natural pacemaker," generates electrical signals that regulate the heartbeat and coordinate the pumping of blood. Blood Pumping Capacity: On average, the human heart pumps about 2,000 gallons (or 7,570 liters) of blood each day. Over a lifetime, this amounts to pumping enough blood to fill several Olympic-sized swimming pools. Heart Chambers and V...

THE WORK HORSE "="

One cannot think of  a mathematical step without 'is equal to ' .  It balances right hand side and left hand side.  It aids simplification and manipulation of a mathematical expression. example: 2(A+B)  = C 2A+2B  = C         2A = C-2B           A = C-2B/ 2   In an electronic calculator,  the pressing of ' = " sign executes an asthmatic expression  or simply calculates.       In computer languages, it plays very important role.                                                                 A = B   When a computer looks at this expression, the value stored in the location named B is just transferred to the storage named A .  After execution both A and B will have the same value an...

How does your smart phone detect motion, steps, rotation, and location?

How it works-1  An accelerometer in a smartphone is a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device that measures acceleration and tilt. It works by detecting changes in motion by measuring the vibration or acceleration of the device. The accelerometer consists of a small mass suspended on a spring inside a sealed chamber. When the device is subjected to acceleration, the mass moves relative to the device, causing a change in capacitance that can be measured and processed by the smartphone's hardware. The accelerometer measures acceleration in three dimensions (x, y, and z) and provides data that the smartphone's software can use to determine the device's orientation, detect motion, and track changes in velocity and acceleration. The accelerometer is used for a variety of purposes in a smartphone, including screen rotation, motion tracking for games and fitness apps, and detecting the position of the device for navigation and location services. Additionally, it can be used t...
