DO NOT THINK STRAIGHT

Think Sideways.  Lateral thinking. What is it?

Example 1. We know about aeroplane carrying ships. In the middle of the nineteenth century, aircraft carriers were designed.  People wanted to land and to take-off air-crafts from the ships.  Hence they put straight run-ways on the top deck.  Here, a plane could either land or take-off at a time.  It was difficult to stop the running plane at the correct moment.  They used strong nets, hooks etc.  There was also not enough space for standing air-crafts.  Search for a solution was on.
On 7th August 1951, Rear Admiral Dennis Campbell was waiting for a meeting.  He thought laterally-literally.  An idea flashed to him.  "why do not we tilt the runway by an angle?" (say 9 degrees-exactly)

When the runway was laid-down at 9 degrees to the straight line, many problems were solved.  They got more space.  Simultaneous taking off and landing was possible.  Free air-crafts could be put on one side away from the runway.  Suppose, an aeroplane overshot the runway,  the pilot could again take-off and reland it.  One more feature was added to the runway.  They elevated the runway at one end by 10 to 15 degrees.  This helped the take-off and reduced the length of the runway.  Hence do not think linearly always.  Sometimes, think laterally (at least by 9 degrees!)

Example 2:  Two men were walking in the woods.  They saw a tiger.  One man started to wear running shoes.  The other asked, "How it will help?  We cannot out-run the powerful tiger".  The first man replied, "I need to out-run you, not the tiger".  The rest is left to your imagination.  Think freshly not traditionally.  But do not betray your friend.

Example 3:
      VII
Put one line.  Make it eight.  It is just easy. VIII.
     IX
Here,  also put one line and convert the nine to six.  Hint:  Do not think straight.
Answer SIX
So, you got it.

Example 4:

Even though '10' is a perfect whole number.  Why our forefathers invented 'dozen' particularly in the case of fruits.
Because oranges and apples like fruits can easily be arranged in 4 * 3 matrix and packed in a box neatly.  They thought out -of- box.

Our brain is a like a mud(just a metaphor).  Grooves are made in the paths where the thinking water-flow often.  Try to change the course of the flow of thoughts.

LISSAJOUS FIGURES

Definition:  "When a particle is subjected to two sine wave motion or two oscillatory motion at right angles, the particle describes lissajous figures".      We know sine wave motion and circular motion is basically same.  Hence we draw two circles A and B perpendicular to each other.  The circle B rotates twice faster than circle A.  That is, frequency of circle B is two times than that of A.        A particle at the intersection of two circles is subjected to two sine wave motion   A and B at 90 degree simultaneously.  The particle will describe figures depending on the frequency and phase of A and B .  In our case, the ratio of frequency is  1:2 and the two waves are in phase.        To draw lissajous figures :  A moving point in both the circles are chosen.   Here we should remember; during the time taken by the circle A to complete one rotation, circle B completes two.  Hence the points are marked on the circles according to their speed.  Then straight lines

THE PARABOLA

A jet of water shooting from a hose pipe will follow a parabolic path.  What is the so special about parabola.    Y= x^2 Draw a graph for the above equation.  It will result in a parabola.  This parabola is also called unit parabola.  Any equation involving square will yield a parabola. Example:  Y = 2x^2 +3x+3 (also called quadratic equation)    X= 2 and -2, both  satisfies the equation 4 = X^2.  Parabolic equations always have two solutions.     Any motion taking place freely under gravity follows parabolic path. Examples:   An object dropped from a moving train,   A bomb dropped from flying plane,  A ball kicked upwards.      If a beam of light rays fall on the parabolic shaped mirror, they will be reflected and brought to focus on a point.  This fact is made use of in Dish Antenna, Telescope mirrors, etc.      Inverted parabola shape is used in the construction of buildings and bridges.  Because the shape is able to bear more weight.      A plane

DISORDER IS THE "ORDER OF THE DAY"

Imagine a balloon full of air.  The air molecules are moving randomly inside the balloon.  Let us pierce the balloon with a pin.  The air rushes out.  Why should not the air molecules stay inside the balloon safely and ignore the little hole?  That is not the way the world works.  The molecules always "want to occupy as many states as possible".  Hence the air goes out in the open to occupy more volume.   The things always goes into disorder (entropy) and the disorder increases with time.  The above statement is what we call "second law of thermodynamics".      Consider a cup of coffee on the table. Suppose the heat from entire room flows to your cup of coffee, the coffee will boil and the rest of the room will freeze.  Freezing means bringing things to order and arrangement.  It violates the second law.  Hence it will never happen.  Hence heat must flow from high temperature to low temperature and not the other way.        The air molecules in y
